Breeze blocks are back, and not just in mid-century restorations. A stacked screen of patterned blocks filters light and breeze while keeping privacy, which makes them a natural fit for Australian front fences, carport screens, courtyard walls and pool surrounds. Inside, a breeze block partition divides a space without closing it in, ideal between an entry and living room or along a stair void.
Ours are glazed ceramic rather than the rough grey concrete of the originals: crisper edges, a finer surface, and colours from natural clay tones to ivory and gloss white. Each design is sold per block, so you can price a wall by counting courses rather than converting square metres.
Patterns, sizes and how they lay
The range covers three patterns: Curve, a soft quarter-round that builds into flowing waves across a wall; Pertuse, a pierced circle with a compact 120x120 format; and Asole, a slotted 120x240 block that stacks into strong vertical lines. All are laid like brickwork in a stack bond with mortar joints, and because the pattern is the feature, a simple stacked layout is usually the right call.
For outdoor walls and anything load-adjacent, have a builder or engineer confirm footings and reinforcement, the same as any masonry screen.
